Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Applications
Dear Future Contestant,
I am Rose Williams, Ms Wheelchair Virginia 2008-09, and I would like to
introduce you to an incredible uplifting and rewarding program that I have
been involved with since 2005, and now a title holder. It all began with a
knock at the door. My friend Mildred brought me a newspaper clip that her
husband had cut out soliciting contestants for Ms. Wheelchair Va 2005. After
learning more about the program, I made myself a check-off list and checked
yes to all the requirements which made me a potential contestant, and I am
so very glad I pursued it.
It is a weekend filled with fun and fellowship with amazing and inspiring
women who share a common bond. Extraordinary women with many different
talents and giftedness who will benefit by practical workshops, a pampering
session with massages, make-up, hair, and nails and gifts to take home, and
mostly, lasting friendships. Also the facilities are wheelchair friendly,
made just for you.
This is an opportunity to educate and inspire by speaking on a platform and
motto of your choice that you is passionate about. To be a contestant you
must be a female, the age of 21 to 60, a resident of Virginia, and using
your wheelchair 100% for public mobility. Each contestant must write and
present a 2 1/2 speech about your platform and raise $500 in sponsorship
fee; this amount will cover your registration, accommodation, and meals for
you and your companion for the entire stay. You can raise the money by
asking friends, family, and local businesses/groups to sponsor you. It is
important to let potential sponsors know that sponsorship is tax deductible
(just request a tax deduction form from the Executive Director, Pam Cobler),
that each sponsor will get their name and business listed in the gals
program book, and that they are helping enriching you so you can return to
be a stronger citizen in the community.
Being Ms. Wheelchair Virginia will give you an opportunity to travel the
state speaking about your platform and promoting disability awareness in our
historic state.
As a four-time contestant and two-time finalist and now a title holder, I
encourage you to come be a part of this wonderful program to be inspired and
to be an inspiration. Please download, read and complete the application. It
is your year to shine!
I hope to see you next year!
Sincerely,
Rose Williams
